Acts Series

Witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Beyond

The book of Acts is the second of two books written by Luke. The Gospel of Luke tells the first part of history of Jesus’ life, works and teachings, “all Jesus began to do and teach”(Acts 1:1). The book of Acts continues the story of what Jesus did through the early church. The full title of the book is The Acts of the Apostles, but it could also be called The Acts of the Holy Spirit. The Book of Acts is a real history written to describe how the ascended Lord Jesus continued to advance His kingdom through the growth and expansion of His Spirit-empowered church.

The main structure of the book is given in Chapter 1 when Luke record Jesus’ words to the disciples before his ascension into heaven,
“…You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
~Acts 1:8
The book of Acts begins with the proclamation of the gospel in Jerusalem, follows the apostles as they’re sent out to Judea and Samaria, and then describes the missionary journeys of Paul, Barnabas & others as the gospel goes forth to the broader Roman world.
