Welcome

Thank you so much for joining us! The following page will take you through the order of worship for this Sunday.

If you are new, welcome! We also want to invite you to learn more about us. You can do so by selecting the button below.
A few tips for parents:
  • Plan for your time – read through the guide and prepare the room where you are gathering
  • Make your time joyful – have fun!!!
  • Remember, it’s primarily about a relationship, not a task to scratch off
  • Have your kids participate in age and maturity appropriate ways – reading, singing, etc.

Time of Reflection

“To be always relevant, you have to say things which are eternal.”
~Simone Weil (1909-1943), French philosopher and political activist; Albert Camus described her as “the only great spirit of our times”

“Today is yesterday’s tomorrow and tomorrow’s yesterday.”
~Alfred Lloyd Tennyson (1809-1892), British poet

“If what we do now is to make no difference in the end, then all the seriousness of life is done a way with.”
~Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), Austrian-British philosopher

“…all your money won’t another minute buy.”
~Kerry Livgren of the musical group Kansas

“Wisdom is a matter of the quality of what we know, not the quantity.”

“Only truth and eternity give relevance to ‘relevance.’ To think or do anything simply ‘because it is relevant’ will always prove to be irrational, dangerous, and a sure road to burnout. It may taste like an unpleasant medicine to our practical modern thinking, but in facts it’s a powerful antidote to perpetual folly: There is an irrelevance to the pursuit of relevance just as there is a relevance to the practice of irrelevance.”
~Os Guinness, English author and social critic

“Thankfully, God has given us His self-revelation in the Bible. And anyone who takes the Bible seriously soon discovers that the issue is not to begin with us as human beings. The moment you begin with us you’re starting in the wrong place. You need to begin with God.”
~Conrad Mbewe, Zambian pastor and author in his book Behold Your God: Rethinking God Biblically

“The problem about the liquidity of modern times is that we can’t actually stay put, whether we travel or not, whether we try to the best of our ability to stick to what we have, to our place of life, to our community, to our kind of job, to our skills: it all moves anyway… Every success is until further notice. Every achievement is a temporary one, and not a guarantee that it will last for ever, not a guarantee that in the future you will be as successful as you have been so far. You have to constantly brace yourself for a new kind of challenge, unexperienced so far, unfamiliar, and you have to forget old habits as quickly as you learned the new ones.”
~Zygmunt Bauman (1925-2017) Polish-born sociologist and philosopher in his book Liquid Modernity

“Futurism is “the major mental disease of our time.”
~George Orwell (1903-1950), English novelist and critic

Call to Worship

Psalm 23 (ESV)

LEADER: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

PEOPLE: He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.

LEADER: He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.

PEOPLE: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

LEADER: You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

ALL: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Songs & Liturgy

(sing as a group and/or sing along to recorded versions)
BEFORE THE THRONE OF GOD ABOVE
(Charitie Bancroft, 1841, Vikki Cook)
Before the throne of God above,
I have a strong and perfect plea,
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands,
My name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heav’n he stands,
No tongue can bid me thence depart.
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see him there,
Who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God the Just is satisfied,
To look on him and pardon me,
To look on him and pardon me.

Behold him there! The risen Lamb,
My perfect, spotless righteousness;
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace!
One with himself I cannot die,
My soul is purchased by his blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Savior and my God,
With Christ my Savior and my God.

RESPONSIVE READING
Psalm 99 (ESV)

LEADER: The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!

PEOPLE: He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!

LEADER: The Lord is great in Zion;
he is exalted over all the peoples.

PEOPLE: Let them praise your great and awesome name!
Holy is he!

LEADER: The King in his might loves justice.
You have established equity;
you have executed justice
and righteousness in Jacob.

PEOPLE: Exalt the Lord our God;
worship at his footstool!
Holy is he!

LEADER: Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel also was among those who called upon his name.
They called to the Lord, and he answered them.

PEOPLE: In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
they kept his testimonies
and the statute that he gave them.

LEADER: O Lord our God, you answered them;
you were a forgiving God to them,
but an avenger of their wrongdoings.

ALL: Exalt the Lord our God,
and worship at his holy mountain;
for the Lord our God is holy!
BEHOLD OUR GOD
(Jonathan Baird, Meghan Baird, Ryan Baird, Stephen Altrogge)
Who has held the oceans in His hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at His voice.
All creation rises to rejoice.

CHORUS:
Behold our God, seated on His throne.
Come, let us adore Him.
Behold our King, nothing can compare,
Come, let us adore Him!

Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of His words?
Who can teach the one who knows all things?
Who can fathom all his wondrous deeds?
(CHORUS)

Who has felt the nails upon His hands.
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man?
God eternal, humbled to the grave,
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign!
(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
You will reign forever! (Let Your glory fill the earth)
You will reign forever! (Let your glory fill the earth)
You will reign forever! (Let your glory fill the earth)
You will reign forever! (Let your glory fill)
(CHORUS)

Sharing

(as a lead into the Prayer Time, as a group share how you are feeling and what you are learning; below are suggested questions)
  • How would you say you’ve struggled the most with the limitations that have come about these last two months?
  • Generally speaking, in what ways could you see limitations serving us well in life?

Prayer

(have an open time of prayer or appoint one or two to pray. Specific prayer requests for this week are listed below.)

  • Pray for educators and students as they finish up the school year in the next few weeks. Pray that they would finish well and honor God with their work.
  • Thank God for our armed service members and pray for their safety.
  • As you may have heard, Ravi Zacharias passed away this past week. He had a profound impact on the advancement of the Gospel through the ministry of apologetics. His love and compassion for the questioner modeled Christ’s own heart for those who lost and searching for Truth. Let us pray this week for Ravi’s family and for his ministry, RZIM. Pray also for ourselves and for our church that as we too encounter questioners we would display the same love and compassion as Ravi did, and have an apt word/reply that serves to nudge people toward a saving knowledge and relationship with Christ.

Listen to Sermon

“A Faith that Works in Overcoming a Foolish View of Time”
James 4:13-17 (ESV)
preached by Pastor Don Willeman

Confession of Faith

Heidelberg Catechism (1563) Lord’s Day 1

LEADER: What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

PEOPLE: That I belong—body and soul, in life and in death—not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation.  Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Sharing Time

(have everyone share one thing that struck them from the sermon)

Song

YOU ALONE CAN RESCUE
(Jonas Myrin & Matt Redman)
Who, O Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still.
(REPEAT)

CHORUS:
You alone can rescue,
You alone can save.
You alone can lift us from the grave.
You came down to find us, led us out of death.
To You alone belongs the highest praise.

You, O Lord, have made a way.
The great divide You healed.
For when our hearts were far away
Your love went further still.
Yes, Your love goes further still
(CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
We lift up our eyes,
Lift up our eyes,
You’re the giver of life.
We lift up our eyes,
Lift up our eyes,
You’re the giver of life.
(Repeat 2X)

Romans 15:13 (NASB)

LEADER: Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

PEOPLE: Amen!
