The Cross & Crown
of Christmas
Christmas is part of a very big story, indeed the story of all history. At the heart of that story is the great reversal of God. In Jesus Christ, the high and exalted God humbled himself to the point of death, even death on a cross. Then humbled God was then exalted again to the place of all power.
At the heart of Christmas is a paradox: The Christ who bears the cross is also the Christ who wears the crown. In Jesus God was born a king, so that He might be crucified as a criminal. Power is hidden in weakness. But it is precisely this power hidden in weakness that creates the vulnerability and a servant-hearted community that God calls us too.
